Out-Of-Hours Appointments

In case of a serious or life-threatening emergency, please call 999 for an ambulance or attend the Accident & Emergency Department at Southend General Hospital.

Weekday evening and weekend GP & Nurses appointments are now available in Southend. All patients registered with a Southend GP practice will be able to use this service, with appointments available at Southend Medical Centre (01702 333298) and at North Shoeburyness Surgery (01702 297976).  The service offers access to a GP or nurse during weekday evenings as well as weekends between 9am and 3pm. Appointments need to be pre-booked via the surgery, but there are some urgent appointments that patients can ring up on the numbers provided; to book on the day.

The service is being delivered by a local GP federation, GP Healthcare Alliance.

Patients should still call 111 outside surgery hours and medical emergencies should dial 999.

Practice patients who have urgent medical problems that will not wait until normal working hours may contact the out-of-hours service directly by dialling 111 for access to urgent medical care when the surgery is closed.

The out-of-hours service will contact the most appropriate healthcare professional who will call you back to discuss your problem and, after taking a full history, will either:
• Give advice over the phone;
• Ask to assess the patient at the GP base;
• Visit the patient at home;
• Admit the patient directly to hospital via 999 ambulance

The Out-of-Hours service is provided by Integrated Care 24 Ltd, also known as IC24.

Help and advice is also available 24 hours a day, seven days a week from the NHS 111 Service by dialling 111. Scroll down for details.
